Ingredients:

  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (gluten-free if desired)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  5. Spread half of the sliced onions over the potatoes.
  6. Pour half of the cream mixture over the layers.
  7. Sprinkle half of the Gruyère cheese over the cream.
  8. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, cream mixture, and Gruyère cheese.
  9. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs.
  10. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  12. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
