Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, boil the cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.
  2. Add butter and minced garlic to the potatoes, and mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in thyme or rosemary if using, and season with salt and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Meanwhile, form ground beef into burger patties and season with salt and pepper.
  7. Grill or pan-fry the burgers over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.
  8. To serve, place a burger on a plate, spoon the creamy mushroom and onion sauce over the top, and serve alongside a generous scoop of garlic mashed potatoes.
