Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs pork belly, skin on
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Score the skin of the pork belly in a crosshatch pattern, being careful not to cut into the meat.
  3. Rub the pork belly all over with salt, black pepper, and five-spice powder, ensuring the mixture gets into the scored skin.
  4. Place the pork belly on a wire rack over a roasting pan, skin side up, and roast in the preheated oven for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. After the initial roasting, increase the oven temperature to 450°F (230°C) and roast for an additional 30 minutes or until the skin is crispy.
  7. Remove the pork belly from the oven and brush generously with the Asian glaze. Return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes.
  8. Let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve.
