Ingredients:

  • 1 cup red lentils (masoor dal)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, slit (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 cup diced mango
  • 1 cup diced pineapple
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Juice of 1 lime

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, combine the lentils, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook until the lentils are soft, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a separate pan, heat ghee or oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  4. Add the chopped onion, green chili, ginger paste, and garlic paste. Sauté until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
  5. Once the lentils are cooked, add the sautéed mixture to the lentils and stir well. Adjust salt if needed.
  6. Fold in the diced mango and pineapple gently, allowing them to warm through without cooking.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the lime juice.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
