Ingredients:

  • 1 whole turkey (12-14 lbs)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the softened butter with rosemary, thyme, sage, garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels. Carefully loosen the skin over the breast and thighs, and spread the herb butter mixture underneath the skin, as well as all over the outside of the turkey.
  4. Stuff the cavity of the turkey with the quartered onion, orange, and lemon.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the orange juice, lemon juice, and honey to create the citrus glaze.
  6. Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan. Pour the chicken broth around the turkey.
  7. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven, basting every 30 minutes with the citrus glaze, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C), about 3-4 hours.
  8. Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving to allow the juices to redistribute.
