Ingredients:

  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, minced garlic, thyme, rosemary, nutmeg, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Heat gently until just warm, not boiling.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes. Sprinkle half of the Gruyère cheese on top.
  5. Add the remaining potatoes in another layer, followed by the rest of the cream mixture and top with the remaining cheese.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  7. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
