Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces mozzarella cheese (string cheese sticks)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup marinara sauce

Instructions:

  1. Cut the mozzarella cheese into sticks, about 4 inches long.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off the excess, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.
  5. In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until hot (about 350°F or 175°C).
  6. Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
