Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup cooked sausage, crumbled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness and shape. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  7. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  8. Sprinkle the crumbled sausage over the sauce, followed by the mozzarella slices.
  9. Create two small wells in the toppings and carefully crack an egg into each well.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the eggs are cooked to your liking.
  11. Remove from the oven and top with fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
