Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Italian sausages (pork or chicken)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (red and yellow), sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato purée
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausages and brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausages and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Return the sausages to the skillet. Pour in the tomato purée and add oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Cover and simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sausages to cook through.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil.
