Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned, then drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then half of the beef mixture. Repeat the layers.
  6. In a bowl, mix sour cream with a little salt and pepper, then spread it over the top layer of beef.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, and if desired, add breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
