Ingredients:

  • 1 pound sausage meat (pork or chicken)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and let cool.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the sausage meat, caramelized onions, thyme, and parsley. Mix until well combined.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into rectangles, approximately 4 inches by 6 inches.
  5. Place a generous amount of the sausage mixture along one edge of each pastry rectangle. Roll the pastry over the filling to form a log and seal the edges by pressing down with a fork.
  6. Place the sausage rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.
