Spiced Chicken Samosas with Mint Chutney

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 package of samosa pastry (or homemade dough)
  • Oil for frying
  • For Mint Chutney: 1 cup fresh mint leaves, 1/2 cup yogurt, 1 tbsp lemon juice, salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent. Stir in garlic, ginger, and green chilies, cooking for another minute.
  3. Add the ground chicken to the skillet and cook until browned. Stir in the peas, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the peas are tender.
  4. Remove from heat and mix in fresh cilantro and lemon juice. Let the filling cool.
  5. Prepare samosa pastry according to package instructions or roll out homemade dough. Cut into circles and fill each with the chicken mixture, folding and sealing them properly.
  6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan and fry the samosas until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  7. For the mint chutney, blend mint leaves, yogurt, lemon juice, and salt until smooth. Adjust seasoning as desired.
  8. Serve the hot samosas with the mint chutney on the side.
