Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and Italian seasoning. Mix well.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the risen dough and shape it into two loaves. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the tops of the loaves with the beaten egg for a golden finish, then sprinkle the grated Parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
  9. Let the loaves rise for another 30 minutes, covered with a cloth.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before slicing.
