Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, remaining sugar, vegetable oil, and salt. Stir well.
  3. Add the frothy yeast mixture to the milk mixture. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, adding more flour as needed until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
  7. Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter, if desired.
