Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Icing sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the warm milk, sugar, oil, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and vanilla extract to the milk mixture, stirring until combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or two round cutters.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Place the donuts in the air fryer basket (in batches if necessary) and cook for about 5-6 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the air fryer and let cool slightly before dusting with icing sugar.
