Ingredients:

  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • 6 sheets of phyllo dough
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and raisins (if using). Set aside.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Repeat this process with three more sheets of phyllo, stacking them on top of each other.
  4. Place the stacked phyllo dough into a 9-inch tart pan, pressing it gently into the corners and allowing the edges to hang over the sides.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the phyllo base.
  6. Roll out the puff pastry sheet and place it over the apples, tucking the edges of the phyllo dough over the puff pastry to create a border.
  7. Brush the top of the puff pastry with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  8. Cut a few slits in the puff pastry to allow steam to escape.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  10. Allow to cool for a few minutes before dusting with powdered sugar and serving warm.
