Ingredients:

  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 12 wonton wraps
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Water for sealing wontons
  • Oil for frying (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the black beans lightly with a fork, leaving some beans whole for texture.
  2. Add the light soy sauce, chopped parsley, garlic powder, ground cumin, salt, and pepper to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.
  3. Place a wonton wrap on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the black bean mixture into the center of the wonton.
  4. Dip your finger in water and run it along the edges of the wonton wrap. Fold the wrap over to form a triangle, pressing the edges to seal. Ensure there are no air pockets.
  5. Repeat the process with the remaining wonton wraps and filling.
  6. In a frying pan, heat oil over medium heat (if frying). Alternatively, you can steam the wontons for a healthier option.
  7. If frying, cook the wontons for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. If steaming, steam for about 8-10 minutes until heated through.
  8. Serve warm with a dipping sauce of your choice, or enjoy them plain.
