Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon to create the cinnamon swirl mixture.
  6. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon swirl mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top and finish with the remaining cinnamon mixture, swirling gently with a knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cake before serving.
