Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in granulated sugar, warmed milk, vegetable oil, and salt.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter to cut out donuts and holes.
  7. Place the cut donuts on a floured baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  10. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon (if using) in a bowl until smooth.
  11. Dip each warm donut into the glaze and set on a wire rack to allow the glaze to set.
