Ingredients:

  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup chickpea flour
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (dairy-free if needed)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mash the chickpeas with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.
  2. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and chickpea flour to the mashed chickpeas. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into small patties or fritters, about 2 inches in diameter.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the fritters in the pan, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to create the spiced yogurt dip.
  7. Serve the crispy chickpea fritters warm with the spiced yogurt dip on the side.
