Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 hamburger buns, preferably buttered and toasted
  • 4 slices American cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles
  • Onion slices

Instructions:

  1. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and form into patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
  3. Season both sides of the patties with salt and pepper.
  4. Place the patties on the hot skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until a crust forms.
  5. Flip the patties and immediately place a tablespoon of softened butter on top of each patty. If using cheese, add a slice on top of the butter.
  6. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or longer to reach your desired doneness.
  7. While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the skillet until golden brown.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked patties on the bottom half of the buns. Top with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion slices. Add the top half of the bun.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade ButterBurgers!
