Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the applesauce, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. If using, fold in the chopped walnuts and chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
