Ingredients:

  • 1 cup red lentils (masoor dal)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, slit
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1/2 cup diced ripe mango
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • Juice of 1 lime

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, combine the lentils, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the lentils are soft, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a separate pan, heat ghee or oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  4. Add the chopped onion and green chili; sauté until the onion is translucent.
  5. Stir in the ginger paste and cook for another minute.
  6. Once the lentils are cooked, add the onion mixture to the lentils and mix well. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  7. Gently fold in the diced mango and pomegranate seeds. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, just to warm the fruits.
  8. Remove from heat, and stir in lime juice.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
