Ingredients:

  • 1 whole turkey (12-14 lbs)
  • 4 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, celery, and carrots. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and apple to the skillet, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the sautéed vegetables, cubed bread, dried cranberries, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Drizzle with melted butter and mix well. Slowly add chicken broth until the stuffing is moist but not soggy.
  5. Prepare the turkey by patting it dry with paper towels. Season the inside and outside generously with salt and pepper.
  6. Stuff the turkey cavity with the prepared stuffing, securing the opening with kitchen twine or toothpicks.
  7. Place the turkey breast side up on a roasting rack in a roasting pan. Drizzle olive oil over the skin and season with additional salt and pepper.
  8. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for about 3-4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  9. Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. Serve with your favorite sides.
