Ingredients:

  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt until well coated.
  3. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, melted butter, and chopped nuts (if using). Mix until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
