Ingredients:

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and add the whole head to the boiling water. Blanch for 2-3 minutes until the leaves are pliable. Remove and let cool.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened and fragrant.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, uncooked rice, sautéed onion and garlic, egg, paprika, dried dill, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  5. Carefully peel off cabbage leaves, trimming the thick vein if necessary. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture at the base of each leaf and roll tightly, tucking in the sides as you go.
  6. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom. Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the top.
  7. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the flavors meld together.
  8. Remove from the oven and let sit for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
