Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) with yeast and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, eggs, and milk.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 8-10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out doughnut shapes and place them on a floured surface.
  6. Cover the cut doughnuts and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  8. Remove the doughnuts and drain on paper towels. Allow them to cool slightly.
  9. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze and let excess drip off.
