Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Using a spoon or a small ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  6. Remove the donuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. While still warm, dust the cheese donuts with powdered sugar before serving.
