Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fruit juice (lemon, raspberry, or lime)
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon agar-agar powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon citric acid
  • Food coloring (optional, for vibrant colors)

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine the fruit juice, corn syrup, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Sprinkle the agar-agar powder over the mixture and stir continuously until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and, if desired, add a few drops of food coloring to enhance the color. Mix well.
  4. Pour the mixture into a silicone candy mold and let it cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until fully set.
  5. Once set, remove the candies from the molds and cut them into small pieces (if not using molds).
  6. In a bowl, combine the granulated sugar and citric acid. Roll each candy piece in the mixture until fully coated for that signature sour flavor.
  7. Allow the coated candies to dry for a few hours before enjoying.
