Ingredients:

  • 1 pound pork shoulder, cut into strips
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple, cut into rings
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Green onions, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice wine, honey, brown sugar, five-spice powder, garlic, and ginger to create the marinade.
  2. Add the pork strips to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a rack on top.
  4. Remove the pork from the marinade and place it on the rack. Reserve the marinade for basting.
  5. Bake the pork for 25 minutes, then baste with the reserved marinade. Bake for another 15 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through and caramelized.
  6. While the pork is baking, heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the pineapple rings and cook until caramelized, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Once the pork is done, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with the caramelized pineapple on the side.
  8. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
