Ingredients:

  • 14 oz firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup honey (or maple syrup for vegan version)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Toss the tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the tofu cubes in a single layer and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together honey (or maple syrup), soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  5. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and pour in the honey-ginger sauce. Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  6. Add the crispy tofu back to the skillet and toss gently in the sauce until well coated.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
